Notes:
(1) This was Yellow Coach's (GM's) first attempt at a 40 foot coach aimed at large cities. Built in October of 1940, this coach must have received very little interest at the time as it remained a demo coach for 8 years according to records. GM's next 40 foot attempt resulted in the TDH5101 in 1948 with a 400 coach order from New York City Transit System.
According to the Engineering Standards from GM, this coach was listed as a TD5501 with no record of a TD5401 being produced. Additional information suggests that this coach was redesignated by GM after it came out of GM Engineering.
Coaches from GM Engineering and demonstrators typically had the coach serial number as the fleet number although not listed.
